Guitar Builder Spotlight: Derek Heffner

Hello readers! Justin here to present a very special blog post! My long-time guitar student, Derek Heffner, has made me a beautiful Goldtop Les Paul style guitar! I cannot express just how blown away I am by Derek’s talent and kindness! Derek honed his building skills under the tutelage of the guitar tech of Les Paul himself, Thomas Doyle. While studying with Thomas, Derek learned to build guitars and pickups in a classic style and has expanded to make his very own pickup designs. I am so thankful for all Derek has done for me and can proudly recommend him to those looking for affordable guitars and high end guitar pickups.

George Papoutsis and Max Alves win Battle of the Bands

Guitar students of Justin Clauser, George Papoutsis and Max Alves took first place at the Eagleview Middle School Battle of the Bands. Their 4 piece band, The Bagels, performed an original composition composed by George and Max. We at The Perfect 5th couldn’t be prouder of their hard work and want to thank the Eagleview Middle school for giving them the opportunity to work as bandmates and perform original music! Congratulations George and Max!

P5 Student, Chris Pedersen Accepts Berklee Scholarship

Chris PedersenThe Perfect 5th would like to congratulate Chris Pedersen for accepting a merit based scholarship to attend Berklee College of Music. Chris studied bass guitar with our instructor and co-owner of The Perfect 5th, Justin Clauser. Chris is a well rounded player and musician with an excellent ear for music, an extensive music theory background, and command of many styles. From the music of Marvin Gay, to J.S. Bach, to Dorje, Chris Pedersen plays the bass guitar with both prowess and passion. For his audition performance piece, Chris and Justin arranged a solo version of Bach’s Two Part Invention No. 13. We at The Perfect 5th couldn’t be prouder of the what Chris has accomplished and wish him the best of luck as he furthers his musical journey at Berklee College of Music.

Students Will Travel!

This student travels from Washington D.C. area in order to continue her studies with John Gerschefski.  Her mother mentioned that it is very difficult to find a teacher of his caliber, even in the D.C. area.  John Gerschefski has been a performer, conductor and arranger in D.C. for much of his life, but prefers to now reside in Mechanicsburg area.  Lucky for us and all string students in our community! DSC_0037.jpg

Central PA District Band Auditions

I wish to extend my congratulations to several students who made top spots in district band this weekend:

-Michele Arnold achieved 3rd place in Lower District Band
-Laura Downer also achieved 3rd in the Upper District Band
-Jacey Crayton achieved 1st chair, in Upper District Band.

In addition,
Jacey and Michele both passed another round of auditioned and successfully won 2nd and 3rd chairs in District Orchestra. This is a very difficult feat, as they were at the top of nearly 100 flutists out of many counties.

I am so proud of all of my students who tried out this year. The piece was a college level piece and everyone worked very hard in the auditions.
